FULTON, Mo. -- Jamie Palermo (Santa Fe, N.M.) and
Brittany Graue (St. Louis, Mo.) were named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 team for the College division on Thursday. It is the first such honor for Graue, with Palermo picking up her second all-district nod following selection as an third team At Large CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2012. With the selection, both players move on for national consideration.
In order to be eligible for nomination, players must maintain a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must be a significant contributor on the field as well. All-district teams are selected by members of CoSIDA from a pool of eligible nominees. The College Division is comprised of NAIA member institutions as well as Canadian colleges and universities and NJCAA members. Academic All-District teams are named at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels as well, with first team all-district honorees eligible for selection to Academic All-America teams.
Palermo leads the Owls with 11 goals on the year, good for fifth in the American Midwest Conference. She has struck for three game-winning goals this year, second-most in the AMC, and has added four assists on the season. She has played in 16 of 17 games for the Owls this season, starting all 16 and playing 924 minutes on the year. The junior is enrolled in WWU's Five-Year MBA program and has earned a 3.37 cumulative GPA in the program.
Graue started all 17 matches for WWU on the year, with 1,327 minutes of action - third-most on the team - and has recorded six assists to go with one goal on the year. Strong in the midfield for the Owls, she has also been a key part of a WWU defensive unit that has allowed just 101 shots on goal in 17 games on the year en route to three shutouts. The senior has compiled a 3.35 cumulative GPA as a Elementary and Early Childhood Education major at William Woods.
The Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America teams will be announced later this month.
