FULTON, Mo.- For the second consecutive season, William Woods University has won the prestigious American Midwest Conference (AMC) President's Cup. The AMC President's Cup is awarded to the all-sports champion of the league.
The Owls athletic programs registered 440 points in the final 2012-13 AMC President Cup standings, finishing ahead of runner up Park University (380), Columbia College (375), Missouri Baptist (332.5) and Hannibal-LaGrange (330) to round out the top five.
William Woods finished in the top five in all of the AMC's 15 championship-sponsored sports during the 2012-13 athletic season. The Owls claimed conference titles in softball, women's golf, men's/women's outdoor track and field and men's/women's indoor track and field.
WWU also sent three teams' and 17 individuals to Nationals this season, including coming back with the school's first ever individual national champion, as track and field athlete Anthony Stockton won the hammer throw with a distance of 61.54m.
"The President's Cup is a nice award to win," said William Woods Athletic Director
Jason Vittone. "I think it shows our university's commitment to giving every sport and student-athlete an opportunity to compete at a high level."
The Owls also posted runner-up efforts during the AMC tournament in baseball, women's basketball, men's golf and women's cross country.
