Fremont, Neb. – The no. 14 William Woods University men's team took a 6-1 victory over Midland University this Friday afternoon on the road.
The Owls took the doubles point, winning the no. 1 and no. 2 matches.
Competing in no. 1 doubles,
Ben Grumley and
Patrick Shelepov won their match against Tycho Janssen and Luca Struffi, 6-2. In no. 2 doubles,
Aaron Westerlund and Nathan Cook earned a 6-4 victory over Miguel Abete and Salvador Almeida.
Robert Schorr and
Zach Frisbie were defeated by Conrad Mascarenhas and Jeremy Attrill in no. 3 doubles, 7-5.
Shelepov fell to Abete 6-2, 6-3 in no. 1 singles. Grumley took a victory over Struffi 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 in no. 2 singles. Westerlund won his no. 3 singles over Nunzio Thiel, 6-3, 6-7(3), 10-7. In no. 4 singles, Novovic defeated Almeida, 6-1, 6-7(4), 10-8. Competing in no. 5 singles,
Vitek Subert won his match 6-2, 6-3 over Mascarenhas. Schorr earned a 6-4, 7-6(5) victory over Janssen in no. 6 singles.
The Owls (2-0) return to action Saturday, Feb. 27, to face University of Nebraska at Omaha. The two teams will play in St. Louis, Mo. at the Kings Point Tennis Center at 4 p.m.
