WWU Finishes Fourth at Railwood Open, Has Two in Top 10

HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. - William Woods University built off its strong individual performances last week with a solid team showing this week, hosting and finishing fourth out of nine teams in the two-round Railwood Open Monday through Tuesday at 5,581-yard, par-72 Railwood Golf Club.

To earn that top-half finish, the Owls carded a 105-over 681 (338, 343), 84 strokes away from the winner, NCAA Division II Lincoln University (294, 303). Rounding out the top three were Central Methodist University in second with a 672 (344, 328) and the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis in third with a 676 (325, 351).

"The women's team did a great job this week getting a high team finish and had Kennedy Dickerson shoot her PR low of 78 the second day and Alissa Olson shot 76 the first day," William Woods women's golf coach Aaron Murphy said.

William Woods' two top-10 finishers in the 43-golfer field were Alissa Olson, tied for fifth with a 12-over 156 (76, 80), and Kennedy Dickerson, tied for seventh seventh with a 16-over 160 (82, 78).

On Day 1, Olson shot the second-best score among NAIA competitors, fifth overall, signing for a season-best round of 4-over 76, which included back-to-back birdies on the par-5 16th and par-4 17th holes.

Dickerson posted the Owls' best tally in Round 2, firing her season-best round with a 78. Although Dickerson had no below-par holes, she played consistent golf and notched 12 pars and six bogeys.

The Gunasegar sisters, Divya (73, 71) and Kaathi (68, 76), were quite the one-two punch for Lincoln. The duo were the co-individual winners, firing a 144.

Tacked on to its schedule Tuesday morning, William Woods concludes its fall season in the CC Cougar Classic next Monday and Tuesday at Columbia Country Club in Columbia.
