Owls Place Second at CC Cougar Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. - William Woods University recorded its best team finish to conclude its fall season, placing second out of four teams with a 160-over 736 (367, 369) in the two-round CC Cougar Classic, hosted by Columbia College Monday through Tuesday at 5,962-yard, par-72 Columbia Country Club.

The host Cougars won the team title, signing for a 659 (329, 330), and the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis took third with a 737 (369, 368).

Not only did the Owls have their best team showing of the fall, but they also had a third different golfer post their best score, with Allyson Hollrah making that happen as she carded a 34-over 178 (89, 89) to tie for eighth out of 27 golfers. Hollrah tallied two birdies and 10 pars between the two rounds.

"It was a great way to finish fall season," William Woods women's golf coach Aaron Murphy said. "It was a great building block for the women to get runner-up this week. High winds made it rough, but the players stayed patient and positive, and that's the main qualities you have to have in tough conditions."

Columbia's Ellie Soderholm, ranked 150th in the Clippd NAIA women's golfer rankings, made it a sweep of the individual and team titles for the Cougars, shooting 154 (79, 75).

Outside of Hollrah, WWU had a standout tournament from Kennedy Dickerson, who took 11th with a 180 (88, 92). She had nine pars in 36 holes.

The Owls get time to rest and prepare for the more important half of their season, the spring portion, where they'll compete in their final American Midwest Conference Championships before joining the Heart of America Athletic Conference next school year.

"Looking forward to keeping up the hard work and building towards a great spring season," Murphy said. "I appreciate all the hard work my players put in this fall season."
