PARKVILLE, Mo. - William Woods University battled back in Round 2, posting an 86-over 366 to finish with a two-round team score of 191-over 759 (393, 366) in the Virginia McCoy Fall Invitational, which took place Monday and Tuesday at The National Golf Club of Kansas City; Monday's Round 1 was played at the par-72 National 1 and Tuesday's Round 2 at par-70 The Deuce.
For a third straight competition, Alissa Olson recorded the Owls' best finish on the individual leaderboard, tying for 27th out of 53 golfers with a 32-over 174 (92, 82). Host Park University's 'A' team swept the team and individual titles, signing for a 67-over 635 (316, 319) as a team. The Pirates' Micaela Suhl topped the individual leaderboard, firing a 7-over 149 (76, 73).
"Women's team did a great job improving by 19 shots from Day 1 to Day 2," William Woods women's golf coach Aaron Murphy said. "Excited to keep progressing."
On Day 1 at the 5,867-yard National 1, Olson led the way for The Woods with a 32-over 92, and Allyson Hollrah had the Owls' best hole as she birdied the 142-yard par-3 sixth hole.
Olson saved her best round for last, carding a 12-over 82 at 5,670-yard The Deuce. She birdied the 327-yard par-4 second hole for the best hole by a WWU golfer on Day 2.
The Owls are back in action when they hit the greens for the Viking Classic, hosted by Grand View University next Monday and Tuesday at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa.
