Becker, Meyer And Taylor Recognized As Central Dairy Owls Of The Month For September
FULTON, Mo. -- Freshman Emily Becker (Belleville, Ill. - Volleyball), Ryan Meyer (Bonnot's Mill, Mo. - Men's Cross Country) and Julian Taylor (York, England - Men's Golf) were announced today as the William Woods University/Central Dairy Owl of the Month award winners for September 2012. The award is presented monthly to student-athletes based on achievements on the field and in the classroom.
Becker earns the honor after helping the Owls to a season-high nine-game winning streak, hitting for double-digit kills in eight of the wins. She is currently ranked 10th in the NAIA with 303 total kills and 42nd in the country with 73 total (23 solo, 50 assists) blocks. She is eight in the AMC in hitting percentage with a .261 mark, with just 86 errors in 831 total attempts.
Meyer has been solid for the Owls Cross Country teams, earning individual meet titles at the WUSTL Early Bird and First to the Finish Southern Stampede. At the Southern Stampede, he blew past the then-reigning NAIA Runner of the Week, finishing the 8K course with a time of 25:14 in sloppy and wet conditions.
Rounding out the honorees, Taylor won individual titles at the 2012 Missouri Intercollegiate and Diet Pepsi Shocker Invitational and finished second at the WWU Fall Invitational. The sophomore climbed 12 spots on the leaderboard in the final round of the Shocker Invitational, posting the low round of the day in the process.
All three recipients of the Owl of the Month award have earned AMC Student-Athlete of the Week honors on the season. Becker picked up her first career nod for the week ending September 30, becoming the first WWU volleyball player to earn the honor since 2009. Meyer has twice been named Runner of the Week - Sept. 3 and Sept. 12 - with Taylor twice earning Golfer of the Week honors - Sept. 10 and Sept. 17.
The Owl of the Month award is presented by Central Dairy, based on nominations from the WWU coaching staff. Honorees must be significant contributors for their sport and must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
