Jim Marshall enters his second season as the Head Coach of the Owls Cross Country and Track and Field Programs. Marshall was named head coach of the cross country and track and field programs on July 7th, 2016.

In his first year at William Woods, the Owls men’s cross country team earned a second-place finish in the AMC Cross Country Championship and qualified for the NAIA National Championship for the first time in school history. During the track season, the Owls men’s track and field team earned a fourth-place finish at the AMC Indoor Championships and a second-place finish at the AMC Outdoor Championships. The women’s team finished first at the AMC Outdoor Championships and a second-place finish during the AMC Indoor Championship. At the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Owls had two national runner-up finishes, a third-place finish and a seventh-place finish, earning four NAIA All-American honors.
 
Marshall come to William Woods after spending six years at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Marshall joined the Westminster College athletic staff in 2010 as assistant cross country coach, and assistant track and field coach. And, in January of 2011, Marshall took over as head track and field coach for both the men and women, and in 2012 he took over as head cross country coach.

During his time at Westminster, Marshall has coached 25 All-Conference runners and a Newcomer of the Year. In 2013, the men's cross country team won the conference championship, and the women's team was the conference runners-up. 

For the track and field teams, Marshall has coached 12 individual conference champions. He coached the 2013 women's championship team, and helped lead the Blue Jays to become the 2013 men and 2014 women conference runners-up.

Marshall came to Westminster after completing an award-winning coaching career at Jefferson City High School. During his 25 years at Jefferson City, he guided the Jays to 27 district titles and two state titles in cross country and was named Class 4 Coach of the Year three times. Jefferson City won nine state titles in track & field during his time on the staff. He was inducted into the Missouri Track & Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005. 

Marshall resides in Columbia, Mo. and has one daughter and two grandchildren.
