(WALNUT RIDGE, Ark., Oct. 30)--The William Woods University men's soccer team defeated Williams Baptist College 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon. The win takes the Owls to 11-6-1 on the year and 3-4 in the American Midwest Conference.
Williams Baptist opened the scoring in the 28th minute on a goal from Jorge Morica. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the half.
The Owls tied the match in the 58th minute on a goal from freshman
Joao Paulo Dutra Parra (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Junior
Marcelo Carreiro (Curitiba, Brazil) assisted on the goal.
Neither team would score again in the second half.
Freshman
Joel De Leon (Simi Valley, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal for the Owls in the 97th minute to give WWU the AMC victory. Carreiro again assisted on the goal.
The Owls outshot the Eagles 33-10 on the afternoon. Senior
Cory Herchenroeder (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded four saves in goal for the Owls.
WWU will return to action in the AMC postseason tournament. The opponent and location are to be announced.
