(LIBERTY, Mo., OCT. 5)--The William Woods University volleyball team split a pair of matches at the William Jewell College Invitational on Tuesday night. The Owls lost to host William Jewell 1-3. They defeated Haskell Indian Nations University 3-0.
The Owls lost 24-26, 25-21, 23-25 and 17-25 in the first match of the evening to WJC. Junior
Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas) had a team-high 11 kills for the Owls. Senior
Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) added 10 kills in the loss.
Freshman
Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) led the Owls with 25 assists. Sophomore
Emily Nolte chipped in 14 assists in the loss.
Sophomore
Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) led William Woods with 20 digs. Freshman Nichole Lolohea (Salt Lake City, Utah) tallied four blocks.
William Woods defeated Haskell Indian Nations 31-29, 25-20 and 25-13 in the last match of the night. Sophomore
Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) led WWU with 10 kills. Wehmeyer and Nolte each had 22 assists in the victory.
Henley again led WWU with 16 digs. She also added three service aces.
William Woods is now 11-11 on the season. They return to action on October 6. The Owls will host Stephens College at 7 pm in Anderson Arena.
