(Davenport, Iowa., Oct. 9)--The William Woods University volleyball team split a pair of matches at the St. Ambrose University Tournament in Davenport, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon. WWU lost to the University of St. Francis (Ill.) 3-2 and defeated Ashford University 3-2.
Sophomore
Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) led the Owls with 27 digs in the 3-2 victory over Ashford University. WWU won the match 25-21, 20-25, 14-25, 25-14 and 15-10.
Junior
Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas) recorded 17 kills in the win. Sophomore
Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) and senior
Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) each added 12 kills in the win.
Junior
Nicole Mannino (St. Charles, Mo.) and Green each had three blocks for the Owls. Freshman
Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) had a team-high 23 assists. Sophomore
Emily Nolte (Higginsville, Mo.) added 22 assists in the WWU win.
In the first match of the day, the Owls lost in five sets to the University of St. Francis. USF won 25-20, 25-20, 9-25, 23-25, and 15-10. Green led the Owls with 17 kills. Fleming added 11 kills in the loss.
Henley recorded a team-high 17 digs for the William Woods. Nolte added 25 assists.
The Owls are now 13-14 on the season. They will return to action on October 15 at Hannibal-LaGrange College. The American Midwest Conference match will begin at 7 pm in Hannibal, Mo.
