(FULTON, Mo., March 2)--The 21st-ranked William Woods University women's basketball team had little trouble in the quarterfinals of the AMC postseason tournament Wednesday night. The Owls defeated visiting Hannibal-LaGrange University 81-56.
WWU took a 41-20 lead into halftime and never looked back. The Owls were led at the break by Rachel Baker (Mexico, Mo.) with 11 points.
William Woods outscored the Trojans 40-36 in the second half to cruise to the tournament win.
Baker had a game-high 24 points in the win. She also added seven assists, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Jestine Gerber (Jefferson City, Mo.) and Katie Scherder (Bowling Green, Mo.) each added 10 points in the win. Jill Sutton (Warrenton, Mo.) led the Owls with seven rebounds.
H-LG (6-25) shot 32.3% from the field in the loss. WWU (28-3) shot 54.4% from the field in the win. The Owls outrebounded the Trojans 42-30.
William Woods will host a semifinal game on Friday, March 4. The Owls host Missouri Baptist University at 7 pm in Anderson Arena. MBU advanced in the tournament with a 76-64 win over McKendree University.
