Woods Tops Williams Baptist

Rodriguez Leads Owls With 12 Kills and 17 Digs
(Fulton, Mo., Sept. 20)--The William Woods University volleyball team defeated visiting Williams Baptist College on Monday night in Anderson Arena. The Owls won 16-25, 25-12, 25-17 and 25-20. With the win, WWU improves to 7-4 overall, 2-2 in the American Midwest Conference.

Williams Baptist took an early 6-1 lead over the Owls in the first set of the night. They would continue the momentum and take the opening set 25-16.

The Owls refocused in the second and third set. They rolled the Eagles 25-12 and 25-17 to take a 2-1 advantage into the fourth set.

William Woods took an early lead, and held on to defeat WBC 25-20 in the final set of the match. Williams Baptist falls to 7-6 overall, 2-3 in league play.

Senior Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) was a force at the net for the Owls. Rodriguez recorded 12 kills in the victory. She also had 17 digs and assisted on three blocks. Junior Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas) reached double-figures in kills for the Owls. Fleming finished the night with 13. She also recorded seven blocks. Junior Nicole Mannino (St. Charles, Mo.) had eight kills and two blocks for Woods in the win.

Sophomore Emily Nolte (Higginsville, Mo.) ran the offense for William Woods. She was credited with 32 assists.

William Woods will return to action on September 22. The Owls host AMC rival Park University in Anderson Arena. First-serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
