(Fulton, Mo., Sept. 22)--The William Woods University volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over visiting Park University on Wednesday night. The Owls defeated the Pirates 25-19, 29-27 and 25-21.
WWU had to fight from behind most of the evening. The Owls trailed the Pirates 10-14 in the opening set before taking 15 of the next 20 points.
Woods had to rally again in the second set. Park took an early 10-3 lead. WWU would chip away at the lead and eventually tie the set at 24. Park had set-point with the serve four times, but could not put William Woods away. The Owls eventually won the second set 29-27.
William Woods had a different vantage point in the final set; they led throughout. It looked like WWU would pull away late in the set, but Park rallied to close the lead to two points. Following a time out, the Owls finished the match with three consecutive points to take the set, and the match.
Junior
Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas) had a game-high 14 kills for the Owls in the win. Fleming also had three blocks for WWU. Freshman Nichole Lolohea (Salt Lake City, Utah) added 12 kills for WWU. Sophomore
Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) reach the double-figure mark in kills as well for the Owls. Green finished the night with 10.
Freshman
Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) led the Owls with 23 assists. Sophomore
Emily Nolte (Higginsville, Mo.) added 19 assists in the winning effort.
Senior
Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) and sophomore
Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) had 15, and 12, digs respectively.
Park falls to 10-6 on the season, 2-2 in the AMC. William Woods improves to 8-4 on the year, 3-2 in league play.
WWU will return to action on September 24 and 25. The Owls will travel to Bellevue, Neb., and compete in the Bellevue University tournament.
