(BELLEVUE, Neb., Sept. 24)--The William Woods University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Bellevue University tournament on Friday. The Owls lost 3-1 to Grand View College, and 3-0 to MidAmerica Nazarene University.
The Owls dropped the opening match 13-25, 25-19, 17-25 and 24-26 to Grand View College. GVC was among others receiving votes in this week's NAIA Top 25 poll. Senior
Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) had a team-high 11 kills in the loss for the Owls. Junior
Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas) added eight kills for WWU. Freshman
Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) led the Owls with 22 assists. Sophomore
Amanda Henley paced William Woods with 26 digs. Sophomore
Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) recorded five blocks in the loss.
William Woods dropped the final match of the day 19-25, 22-25 and 19-25 to MidAmerica Nazarene University. Senior
Jessica Deetz (Nixa, Mo.) and Rodriguez had six kills each for the Owls. Sophomore
Emily Nolte (Higginsville, Mo.) and Wehmeyer each had 11 assists for WWU. Henley added 16 digs in the loss.
WWU (8-6) will return to action on Saturday. They conclude the tournament with matches against Bethel College (Kan.) at 9 am, and 18th-ranked Bellevue University at 1 pm.
