Woods Splits at Tournament

The William Woods University volleyball team split a pair of matches today at the Hannibal-LaGrange University Tournament.  The two-day tournament is taking place in Hannibal, Mo.

The Owls opened the tournament with a 3-2 loss to host Hannibal-LaGrange University.  The match counted as an American Midwest Conference match.  The Trojans defeated the Owls 17-25, 25-17, 25-16, 14-25 and 15-9.  Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas) led the Owls with 15 kills.  Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) added 14 kills and five blocks.  Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) led the WWU offense with 22 assists.  Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) recorded 19 digs in the loss.

WWU finished the night with a 3-0 victory over Culver-Stockton College.  The Owls defeated the Wildcats 25-21, 25-18 and 25-19.  Fleming led the Owls again with eight kills.  Green added seven kills and five blocks.  Melanie Bonk (Hampshire, Ill.) recorded five blocks for the Owls.  Wehmeyer and Henley each tallied 11 digs in the win.

William Woods is now 11-14 on the season and 4-6 in the AMC.  They return to action Saturday in the H-LG Tournament.  The Owls play Baker University at 11 am and MidAmerica Nazarene University at 3 pm.
