The William Woods University men's soccer team earned a victory Saturday afternoon on Firley Field. The Owls defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville 2-1. The win snapped a three-match winless streak for William Woods.
The Owls opened the scoring in the 11th minute of play.
Joel De Leon (Simi Valley, Calif.) scored off an assist from
Kyle Konigsberg (Simi Valley, Calif.) to give the Owls an early lead. They would hold that advantage until the 34th minute. The Lynx scored off a goal from Tyler Houck to send the match to the half tied at one.
De Leon scored again in the 52nd minute to give the Owls the lead for good. De Leon scored off an assist from
Matt Steiniger (O'Fallon, Mo.).
The Owls (8-7-1) outshot the Lynx (11-5-1) 15-11. William Woods placed six shots on goal. LU-B put two shots on goal.
Igor Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned the victory in goal for the Owls. Dos Santos had one save on the afternoon.
WWU returns to action October 25. They host William Penn University at 5 pm on Firley Field.
