The William Woods University men's soccer team won an American Midwest Conference match on Saturday afternoon. The Owls won 4-0 at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo.
Marcelo Carreiro (Curtiba, Brazil) scored all four goals for the Owls in the win. Carreiro scored in the 5th, 25th, 31st and 55th minute in the conference win. Carreiro now has nine goals on the season. He set a new William Woods University for most goals in a match. The previous record was three goals. It was shared by Carreiro and three others.
The Owls outshot the Spartans 24-6. William Woods had 13 shots on goal. MBU tallied only two shots on goal.
Jeremy Herrman (Raytown, Mo.) had two saves for the Owls in the shutout victory.
WWU improves to 3-1 in the AMC and 7-5 overall. The Owls are in a tie for second place in the AMC standing with Park University. MBU falls to 1-3 in league play and 1-10-1 overall.
William Woods returns to action October 12 at Columbia College. The AMC kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm in Columbia, Mo.
