Andrews 17 Points Lead William Woods To 67-50 Rout Of Baker

Fulton, Mo. -- Behind a 17-point outing from Sharron Andrews (Oakland/Hayward, Calif.), the William Woods University women's basketball team coasted to a 67-50 rout of Baker University on Saturday. The Owls ran out to a 17-0 lead and never let the Wildcats nearer than 12 the rest of the game to improve to 5-2 on the year.

After opening with a quick bucket off a forced turnover, the Owls combined solid defense and dismal shooting from Baker to roll out to a 17-0 lead. The Wildcats would not score their first points until the 10:24 mark, and WWU took a 37-17 lead into the locker room at half.

Baker took advantage in the second half as the Owls looked a bit sluggish coming out of the intermission, but could never pull closer than 12 points. Andrews finally broke William Woods out of the funk with just over 11 minutes to go, as she forced two turnovers and scored back-to-back buckets 28 seconds apart, adding a third straight with 10:06 left off a missed trey from Olivia Storjohann (Eldridge, Iowa) to push WWU back to a 51-31 margin.

Blake French (St. Charles, Mo.) and Ashlee Taylor (Dexter, Mo.) were also in double-figures for the Owls, with 12 and 10 points respectively in the game. WWU shot .441 from the field and .300 from 3-pt range and held a 42-26 rebounding edge as well.

For the visiting Wildcats, Gloria Atanmo posted a double-double (10 pts, 10 reb), while Alisha Fanshier led the way with 17 points. Baker shot .377 from the floor and .429 from long range on the afternoon, falling to 1-7)

The Owls have a long break, returning to the court on November 29 as they visit College of the Ozarks. Tipoff from Branson, Mo., is set for 5:30 p.m.
