The 23rd-ranked William Woods University women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season Friday night. The Owls lost 58-40 at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.
The Ravens (1-0) took a 30-17 lead into halftime. The Owls shot 24% from the field in the opening half. BC hit 12-of-26 shots (46.2%) from the field.
The Owls were unable to climb out of the halftime deficit. Benedictine outscored WWU 28-23 in the second half.
Sharron Andrews (Oakland/Hayward, Calif.) and
Blake French (St. Charles, Mo.) led the Owls with eight points each. Andrews added four assists in the loss.
Megan Aubuchon (Old Monroe, Mo.) added six points and a team-high six rebounds.
WWU (1-1) shot 29.1% from the field in the loss. Benedictine College shot 41.1% from the field in the win. The Owls outrebounded the Ravens 41-39.
William Woods will return to action on Saturday. The Owls play Ottawa University at 2 pm in Ottawa, Kan.
