The William Woods University men's soccer team earned a victory in the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament Saturday afternoon. The Owls defeated visiting Williams Baptist College 2-0 on Firley Field in the quarterfinals of the AMC tournament.
Kyle Konigsberg (Simi Valley, Calif.) scored in the fifth minute to give the Owls the only score they would need on the afternoon. Konigsberg scored off an assist from
Marcelo Carreiro (Curtiba, Brazil).
The Owls went to halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
In the 80
th minute of play,
Joel De Leon (Simi Valley, Calif.) headed a serve past the WBC goalie to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.
Alan Matthew (Glasgow, Scotland) recorded an assist on the goal.
Igor Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) recorded a shutout in goal for the Owls. He recorded eight saves on the afternoon.
WWU (10-8-1) outshot the Eagles (7-10) 19-14. William Woods placed seven shots on goal. Williams Baptist had eight shots on goal.
The Owls advance to the semifinals of the AMC tournament on Tuesday. They travel to Hannibal-LaGrange University for a 1 pm kick-off.
