(FULTON, Mo., Feb. 15)--The William Woods University men's basketball team defeated visiting Williams Baptist College Tuesday night. The Owls defeated the Eagles 84-77.
Williams Baptist took a 44-40 lead into halftime.
Andrew Miller (Whangamata, New Zealand) and
Jonathon Nutt (Palmyra, Mo.) led the Owls at the break with nine points apiece.
WBC (9-13, 2-7) pushed its lead to eight points (67-59) with 8:43 remaining in the game. The Owls went on a 14-6 run to tie the game at 73 with 2:38 remaining.
Elliott Black (St. Louis, Mo.) scored from the low post to tie the contest. On the Owls' next possession,
Logan Decker (Kansas City, Mo.) hit a lay-up, was fouled and converted the free throw to give WWU its first lead of the second half. WWU hits its free throws down the stretch to secure the AMC victory.
Miller led the Owls with 18 points. He was 7-for-14 from the field, 1-for-1 from beyond the three-point line and 3-for-3 from the foul line. Decker and Nutt each added 15 points in the victory. Black also reached double-figures in the win. He finished the night with 13 points. Nutt and
Dan Anderson (Jefferson City, Mo.) led the Owls in rebounding with seven each.
WBC shot 48.4% from the field in the loss. WWU shot 49.2% from the field in the win. The Owls outrebounded the Eagles 37-31.
William Woods will return to action on Thursday. The Owls travel to 24th-ranked Park University for another AMC match-up. The Owls and Pirates will tip-off at approximately 7:30 pm.
