The William Woods University volleyball team opened its 2011 season in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on Friday. The Owls dropped its first match 3-0 to Westminster College (Utah). WC defeated the Owls 25-21, 25-12 and 26-24. The Owls lost its second match to John Brown University 3-0. JBU defeated the Owls 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19.

 

Senior Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Texas) led the Owls with seven kills in the loss to John Brown University. Junior Morgan Bauer (Bloomer, Wis.) recorded six kills in the loss. Kristen Bauer (St. Charles, Mo.) and Alicia Green (Midlothian, Texas) each added five kills. Green had a team-high six blocks for the Owls.

 

Junior Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) led William Woods with 14 digs in the loss to JBU. Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) added 12 digs and a team-high 22 assists.

The tournament schedule has changed for William Woods. On Saturday, the Owls play Wiley College at 10 am, and Oklahoma Baptist University at 2 pm.
