Men Open AMC Play With Win

The William Woods University men's soccer team cruised to an American Midwest Conference victory Friday night on Firley Field. The Owls defeated AMC newcomer Benedictine University-Springfield 5-0 to improve to 2-0 overall, and 1-0 in the AMC.
 
The Owls scored early and often in the opening half. Marcelo Carreiro (Curtiba, Brazil) opened the scoring in the seventh minute off an assist from Joao Paulo Parra (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Carreiro returned the favor in the ninth minute. He assisted on a goal from Parra to push the WWU lead to two goals. Parra added his second goal of the night, and fourth of the season, in the 10th minute.
 
Luca Stroeter (Sao Paulo, Brazil) capped the first half scoring in the 27th minute. Stroeter scored off another assist from Carreiro to give the Owls a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.
 
Christyan Busato (Sao Paulo, Brazil) ending the scoring binge for the Owls in the 84th minute. Busato scored off an assist from Brian Dougherty (St. Peters, Mo.).
 
Two Owls saw action in goal Friday night. Jeremy Herrman (Raytown, Mo.) did not face a shot in the first half. Igor Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) recorded one second half save.
 
The Owls fired 43 shots on the night. They placed 19 shots on goal. BU-S (0-1, 0-1) managed only three shots on the evening.
 
William Woods will return to action on Saturday. The Owls host Concordia University (Neb.) at 11 am on Firley Field.
