PARKVILLE, Mo. -- Despite battling back from a 6-0 hole in the first set, the William Woods University volleyball team couldn't pick up the win on Monday night, falling 3-0 (23-25, 18-25, 12-25) to no. 25 Park University.
Kristen Bauer (St. Charles, Mo.) led the Owls with 10 kills on the night, while
Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) posted a double-double on the night with 17 assists and 10 digs.
After falling behind in the first set, a timeout for William Woods at 3-10 looked to shift the momentum. The Owls slowly began to nibble away at the Pirate lead. WWU pulled to within 18-20, eventually tying the contest at 21-21, but the Owls were unable to take the lead and dropped the first set 23-25.
The teams were more evenly paced through the second set, although the Owls weren't able to overcome a late spurt by Park, falling 18-25 in the second set. The Pirates jumped out to an early lead in set three and held on for the win.
With the loss, WWU falls to 19-18 overall and 11-6 in AMC play, while Park moves to 24-10 and 13-4 in league action.
William Woods returns home to close out the regular season on Thursday night, hosting Hannibal-LaGrange University. The match is senior night, with the Owls recognizing four players who will wrap their careers in Burgundy and Forest Green. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
