Carnelos Notches Goal And Assist As Owls Down Lindenwood-Belleville 3-1

BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- The William Woods University men's soccer team picked up its second straight win on Sunday afternoon, a 3-1 win over NAIA newcomers Lindenwood University-Belleville. Danilo Carnelos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up the game-winning goal in the 29th minute, adding an assist in the 48th minute.

WWU opened the scoring in the 21st minute, as Luca Stroeter (Sao Paulo, Brazil) struck for his fourth goal of the year. Marcelo Carreiro (Curtiba, Brazil) picked up the assist on the Owls free kick.

Lindenwood-Belleville equalized in the 26th minute, off a Brett Lewis strike.

The Owls would go back in front on the final tick of the 29th minute. Carnelos served up a corner kick, with LU-B unable to completely clear the effort. On the recycled attack, Kyle Konigsberg (Simi Valley, Calif.) served up a cross into the area, with Carnelos nodding it home.

The Lynx came close to equalizing again to start the second half, but Igor Dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) saved the effort from Daniel Caballero.

William Woods added an insurance goal in the 48th minute, with Carnelos finding Sebastian Burich (Santiago, Chile) for the 3-1 lead.

Dos Santos recorded five total saves in the match, playing the full 90 minutes for WWU. The Owls outshot the Lynx 29-9 in the match, with a 10-6 edge in shots on goal. The foul count was fairly even as well - 20-19 for WWU - but William Woods only saw two cautions in the match, with Lindenwood-Belleville picking up five cautions to go with an ejection in the 88th minute.

William Woods returns to AMC play on Tuesday night, hosting Columbia College. The match is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff and will be streamed live at wwuowls.com.
