FULTON, Mo. -- Dontre' Jenkins (New Madrid, Mo.) posted his first career double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, but it was scant consolation as the William Wood University men's basketball team lost 57-75 to Columbia College on Saturday.
Jenkins opened the scoring for the Owls with a 3-pointer followed by a jumper in the lane as WWU opened up a quick 5-2 lead, but it would be short-lived, as Columbia paced out a 39-23 lead at the half behind a .515 shooting performance.
Both teams cooled off in the second half, although the Owls went a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line, keeping pace with Columbia but unable to narrow the gap.
The Owls shot at a .327 pace on the night, finisht with a .296 mark from distance and a .929 (13-of-14) pace from the free throw line. Columbia hit at a .438 clip for the game and a .318 mark from outside, edging WWU in the rebounding battle by a 41-35 margin as well.
William Woods returns to AMC action on Thursday night, traveling to Walnut Ridge, Ark., to take on Williams Baptist. Tipoff for the game is set for 7:30 p.m.
