FULTON, Mo. -- A hat trick from
Ryan Mann (Florissant, Mo.) and two-goal games from
Marcelo Carreiro (Curtiba, Brazil),
Christyan Busato (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and
Ivan Bodul (St. Louis, Mo.) powered the William Woods University men's soccer team to a 13-0 win over Central Christian College of the Bible on Monday night. The win marks both the largest margin of victory and the most goals scored in a single game in program history.
The Owls got on the board fairly early in the game, striking twice in the third minute. Carreiro opened the WWU account with 2:11 gone, and
Joao Paulo Parra (Sao Paulo, Brazil) added a second just 14 seconds later.
Mann wrapped up the first half scoring in the 45th minute, completing his hat trick by nodding a long ball from
Adam Smith (Warrenton, Mo.) over the Saints goalkeeper.
William Woods had previously won by 10 goals on two separate occasions - a 10-0 win over Williams Baptist College on October 4, 2003 and a 11-1 win at MacMurray College on September 11, 2010 - but eclipsed the margin as well as the total goal output in tonight's match.
The Owls are on the road for an extended road swing that starts at Culver-Stockton College. WWU heads to Canton, Mo., on Saturday, September 15, for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
