CLINTON, Iowa -- The William Woods University Volleyball team closed out the Ashford University Invitational with a pair of wins on Saturday. The Owls rolled over Johnson & Wales University - Colorado in the opener, winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-14) before besting Culver-Stockton College 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20) in the tournament finale.
The Owls posted a solid attack percentage of .226 against Johnson & Wales, led by
Emma Aschenbrenner (Broomfield, Colo.) with a .428 mark and
Emily Becker (Belleville, Ill.) with a .315 rate.
Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) added 20 digs in the match, while
Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) handing out 27 assists.
Becker was also an offensive power against Culver-Stockton, collecting 14 kills behind a .366 attack percentage.
Kristen Bauer (St. Charles, Mo.) posted a stout .466 hitting mark, with 16 kills in the match. Wehmeyer collected her seventh double-double of the season with 10 digs and 42 assists.
Henley led the Owls defensively with 15 digs in the match, with
Emily Nolte (Higginsville, Mo.) adding 13. The 42 assists for Wehmeyer mark the fourth-best single-match total for a four-set match since those records have been kept.
Behind her strong performances throughout the tournament, Becker also earned an all-tournament team nod.
With the win, WWU moves to 4-10 on the year. William Woods returns home for an American Midwest Conference match against Park University on Tuesday night. First serve for the match, a White Out Night presented by White Dog Promotions, is set for 7 p.m.
