ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The William Woods University volleyball team collected a pair of wins at Harris-Stowe State University on Monday night in an American Midwest Conference doubleheader. The Owls won the first match 3-1 (25-9, 25-15, 22-25, 25-13) and then took the second match in straight sets 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-12).
Emily Becker (Belleville, Ill.) tallied double-digit kills for the fifth time in the past six matches with 15. Senior
Amanda Henley (Jefferson City, Mo.) put in another outstanding defensive performance with 12 digs, while
Sarah Wehmeyer (Carrollton, Texas) collected her 11th double-double on the year with 10 digs and 38 assists.
In the second match William Woods was able to make quick work of the Hornets. The Owls trademark defense was once again on full display as they held Harris-Stowe to just 29 points for the match, the lowest point total scored against WWU all year.
Henley led the impressive defensive effort with 19 digs, while Becker paced the offense with seven kills.
With the two victories, William Woods extend its winning streak to a season-high four games. The Owls now sit at 8-12 on the year and 5-2 in the AMC. Conversely, the two losses leave the Hornets still looking for their first win on the season. They are 0-13 overall and 0-5 in the league.
William Woods concludes their five-game road trip on Wednesday at Lindenwood University-Belleville. The Owls defeated LUB 3-1 earlier this season at Anderson Arena. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
