DES MOINES, Iowa -- Emily Becker's double-double wasn't enough to lift the William Woods University volleyball team past no. 19-ranked Grand View University on Friday afternoon, as the Owls dropped the first match of the Grand View University Tournament 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-16).
Becker led William Woods (12-15) with 10 kills, and posted 10 digs on the afternoon to earn her seventh double-double of the season. It was the first time in two matches that the Belleville, Ill., native has posted double-digit kills.
WWU struggled on the offensive side of the net in the tournament's first match, as they committed 16 attack errors to give them a .147 attack percentage for the match.
The Owls defense, which entered the match fifth in the NAIA in total digs with 1,885, collected 47 digs in the three-set match. Junior libero Abbie O'Mara paced the team with 22 digs.
Grand View University was led by Erin Roggenburg's 18-kill performance. The Vikings were efficient on the offensive side, as they collected a .371 attack percentage on the afternoon. Roggenburg also led the team in hitting with her .368 attack percentage.
William Woods wraps up Friday's action with a 6 p.m. match against Viterbo University (RV). It will be the second time this season that these two schools will face-off, as Viterbo defeated the Owls in straight sets at the Ashford University Tournament.
