DES MOINES, Iowa -- The William Woods University volleyball team dropped a hard fought five-set match to the University of Jamestown 3-2 (13-25, 25-16, 11-25, 25-19, 10-15) in the first match of Saturday's Grand View University Tournament.
William Woods (12-17) has now dropped all three matches that they have played in this weekend's tournament, as the Owls lost a pair of three-set matches on Friday to no. 19 Grand View University and Viterbo University.
The Owls had a pair of double-digit kill performances from sophomore Emily Becker collected a team-high 19 kills, while junior Kristen Bauer collected 13.
Freshman Stephanie Davis had a strong performance this morning by posting a team-high .348 attack percentage as she collected nine kills to just one attack error.
The WWU defense, which came into the match with the seventh most digs in the NAIA, added 87 more digs to its season total as they got a pair of 18-dig performances from Becker and junior libero Abbie O'Mara.
It was the second time in three matches that Becker has collected a double-double, as she posted 10 kills to go along with 17 digs in the tournament's opening match against no. 19-ranked Grand View University yesterday afternoon.
Freshman setter Sara Stevenson also posted her second double-double of the tournament, as she handed out 46 assists to go with 16 digs.
The Owls will have one more shot to earn a victory this weekend, as they wrap-up tournament play at 2 p.m. on Saturday as they take on Ashford University.
