FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods men's soccer team has one final game before American Midwest Conference playoffs begin, and that is on the road against Southwest Baptist University on Tuesday night. Kick-off will start at 6:30 p.m.
The Owls (9-8; 6-4 AMC), are on a two game losing streak, falling to Park University 2-1 in double-overtime and most recently to Missouri Baptist 1-0. The Owls outshot the Spartans 7-6, but a late goal in the 83
rd minute by MBU's Providence Tucker handed WWU a tough loss.
Still, WWU has won three out of its last five games, which currently places them as the fifth seed in the AMC, having locked up a spot in the playoffs which begin on November 9th. Their seeding, however, is subject to change with other conference games going on until November 2
nd.
This will be the fifth meeting between William Woods and SBU, with the Owls winning all four of the previous matchups by a combined score of 17-1. The two teams met last season with the Owls winning 5-1, getting goals from
Marcelo Carreiro,
Sebastian Burich,
Joao Paulo Parra,
Adam Roberts and
Danilo Carnelos.
The Owls offense looks to find their groove again against the Bearcats, as during the last two games the team has totaled just 16 shots. Seniors Carreiro and Parra will look to get the offense rolling, as the duo has totaled 16 goals, 10 assists and 42 points on the year.
Burich and
Kyle Konigsberg have four goals on the year, while
Jacob Hawes and
Alex Severino each netted three on the season.
In net,
Evan Melone has appeared in 11 games, earning himself a goals against average of 1.52 and a save percentage of .745 for a 6-4 record on the year.
The Bearcats (0-15; 0-6 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association), a Division II school, has been outscored 67-17 and outshot 310-167 on the season. On offense, the Bearcats are led by Kaleb Romero, who has scored eight goals and tallied two assists for 18 points. Bradley Stillwagon is second on the team having three goals, while Garrett Gibson has contributed two.
In goal, Austin Haywood has appeared in the most games (10), totaling 867:00 minutes, having a goals against average of 4.98 and a save percentage of .564. Lajos Zadravecz has manned the net in six games for the Bearcats, holding a team best 3.53 GAA and a save percentage of .661.
