Box Score BOLIVAR, Mo.—The William Woods men's soccer team closed out the 2013 regular season on a high note, snapping a two game losing streak, as the Owls defeated Southwest Baptist University 2-1 on Tuesday night.

The Owls (10-8; 6-4 AMC), outshot the Bearcats 12-5 in the first half, but it was SBU jumping on the scoreboard first, as Kaleb Romero's header into the back of the net, gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead at the 17:05 mark.

Just 3:00 minutes later, however, Jacob Hawes scored his fourth goal of the season, on an assist from Paulo Conelian to even the score up at 1-1 heading into halftime.

In the second half, each team had a good amount of scoring chances, with WWU totaling nine shots, while Southwest Baptist was held to seven, but as the clock continued to tick towards 90:00 minutes, the score remained 1-1.

Then, at the 75:19 mark, there was a foul by a Bearcats defender on an Owls player inside the 18 yard box, which awarded WWU a penalty kick. Alan Matthew, who has already scored on a penalty kick this year, which came against Williams Baptist back on Oct. 12th, netted his second goal on the season, giving the team a 2-1 advantage.

The Owls defense held the Bearcats to just one shot in the final 15:00 minutes and they were able to hold on for their 10th victory on the season.

WWU outshot the Bearcats 21-12 in the game, with Sebastian Burich leading the way with four shots. Jordan Bay added three, while five other Owl players contributed two shots. Robertt Butvin picked up his fourth victory on the season in net, making two saves.

Also, with Mid-Continent falling to Park University Tuesday night, the Owls moved up to the No. 4 seed for the American Midwest Conference tournament playoffs which are set to begin on Nov. 9th and unofficially are likely to host No. 5 seed Mid-Continent University for a time that is TBA.
