OLATHE, Kan. -- The William Woods University volleyball team dropped its fifth consecutive match as they fell to no. 5
MidAmerica Nazarene 3-0 (15-25, 15-25, 20-25) on Friday night.
MidAmerica Nazarene (17-1) came into the match ranked no. 5 in the most recent NAIA Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Poll, and proved to be too much for William Woods (8-14), as they held
WWU to season-lows in digs and kills on the night.
The Owls, who entered Friday with the fourth most digs in the NAIA, collected just 22 in the match. Junior
libero Abbie O'Mara, who had the second-highest dig total in the country, failed to reach double-digits for the first time this season, as she collected just six digs in the three-set match.
The Pioneers wasted no time building a significant lead in the first two sets, as they held a 20-9 advantage in the first set and a 22-12 lead in the second frame before taking each set 25-15.
William Woods held a brief 12-11 lead in the third set, but
MNU rallied off the next three points to retake the lead at 14-12.
WWU was able to pull within one point at 17-16, but the Pioneers closed out on an 8-4 run, taking the set 25-20, giving them the straight set victory.
WWU collected a season-low 24 kills in the match, as no Owl collected double-figures on the night.
Kristen Bauer was the lone bright spot for William Woods on the night, as the junior collected a team-high eight kills on a .316 attack percentage.
The Owls will now take a short break before returning to action on Oct. 9, as they travel to
Lindenwood University-Belleville. William Woods defeated the Lady Lynx in straight sets on Sept. 3.
Emily Becker collected a double-double against LU-B in the first meeting by collecting 13 digs and 10 kills.
