Top AMC Teams In Owls And Cougars Kickoff Tomorrow Night

FULTON, Mo.—The William Woods men's soccer team plays its second top 25 team in less than a week, as the Owls travel to no. 22 Columbia College on Tuesday night. Kick-off is set to start at 7:00 p.m.

As of now, William Woods stands in third place in the American Midwest Conference, trailing overall leader Columbia College by 1.5 games and second place 17th ranked Hannibal-LaGrange by 1.0 game.

The Owls (6-5; 3-1 AMC) are coming off a 2-1 victory over Harris-Stowe State on Saturday afternoon. The team trailed 1-0 just 5:00 minutes into the game, but Jesse Jordan scored his second goal on the season in the 26th minute on an assist from Joao Paulo Parra tying the game up at 1-1.

The game remained tied until the 65:47 mark in the second half, when Alex Severino scored the game winner on a corner kick from Kyle Konigsberg to make it a final one goal victory. The Owls defense shut down the Hornets offense, holding them to just four shots, while the WWU offense totaled 14.

The offense for the Owls is led by the trio of Sebastian Burich, Marcelo Carreiro and Parra, combining for 15 of the teams' 24 goals. Carreiro leads the team in goals with six and points 16, while Parra is first in assists with five. They are ranked in the top 25 in the AMC in points, goals and assists, while Parra ranks 32nd in the NAIA in shots per game (4.18) and 47th in assists (5).

The 22nd ranked Cougars (8-2-2; 5-0-1 AMC) hold a 15-2-1 record against the Owls, and they are on a four game winning streak, outscoring their AMC opponents (Missouri Baptist, Williams Baptist, Freed-Hardeman, Mid-Continent) 13-4.

Columbia's offense is led by Marko Paunovic and Rafael Ramos each scoring eight goals on the season. Paunoivic leads the team with seven assists and has totaled 33 shots on the season. Ramos, meanwhile, got his scoring started against MBU, where he scored all four goals in the game. Antonia Ayres (3 g, 4 a) and Clemente Rossi (3 g, 2 a) will be two other players to keep an eye on for the Cougars.

In goal, Matt Mckenna has played in 1037:00 minutes on the year, earning a goals against average of .950 on 11 goals allowed and has made 35 saves for a .761 save percentage.
