BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- The William Woods University volleyball team looks to snap its five-match losing streak on Wednesday night as they travel to Lindenwood University-Belleville to take on the Lady Lynx. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
William Woods (8-14) will be seeking its first win in five matches, as they go for the season sweep of Lindenwood University-Belleville (11-12). The Owls collected their first win of the season against the Lady Lynx on Sept. 3 in Fulton, as they collected the straight set victory.
Last Friday, the Owls fell in straight sets to no. 5 MidAmerica Nazarene University. The loss matches a season-high five-match losing streak. William Woods has fell victim to an extremely tough schedule of late, as they have dropped their last two matches in straight sets to a pair of teams in the NAIA Volleyball Coaches Top 25 Poll.
Junior libero Abbie O'Mara goes into the match ranked third in the NAIA in digs with 546. The St. Peters, Mo., native was held in check against MidAmerica Nazarene, as she posted a season-low six digs. O'Mara will look to get back on track against Lindenwood-Belleville, as she collected 16 digs in the last meeting between the two teams.
Sophomore Emily Becker has been extremely effective against her hometown college, as the Belleville, Ill., native has collected 38 digs, 33 kills, and 22 blocks in three games against Lindenwood-Belleville. The last time the Owls visited Belleville, Ill., Becker collected the lone triple-double of her career as she totaled 14 blocks, 10 digs, and 10 kills.
Lindenwood University-Belleville comes into Wednesday's match on a brief two-match winning streak. The Lady Lynx have defeated Oakland City and Benedictine University at Springfield during its recent streak.
Taylor Albrecht leads the team in kills with 214. The outsider hitter has the 33rd-highest kills per match ratio in the NAIA at 3.69. William Woods held Albrecht in check during the first meeting between this two teams back on Sept. 3 as she collected just five kills.
Lindenwood-Belleville has been one of the premier teams in service aces this season in the NAIA. The Lady Lynx 170 aces are the ninth-highest total in the country. Taylor Glueck's 54 aces leads the team. Glueck has collected the sixth-most service aces in the nation.
Tuesday will be just the fifth game at home for the Lady Lynx this season. So far, they are 3-1 at home, with the lone loss coming against Oakland City.
