BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- The William Woods University volleyball team got a pair of double-doubles from a couple of Belleville, Ill., natives, as the Owls snapped a five-match losing streak by defeating Lindenwood University-Belleville in a five set match on Wednesday night.
Emily Becker's team-high 17 kills led William Woods (9-14) to a thrilling 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-18, 15-12) victory over Lindenwood University-Belleville (11-13) on Wednesday night. Becker collected a double-double on the night, as she posted 16 digs to go along with 17 kills for the night.
Becker's former high school teammate, Sara Stevenson, also collected a double-double against her hometown college as the freshman setter collected 44 assists to go along with 14 digs on the night.
William Woods was able to rebound from a Lindenwood-Belleville 2-1 lead, to take the match in five sets.
The Owls defense was back on full display tonight, as they collect 90 digs. Abbie O'Mara, who entered Wednesday's match third in the NAIA in digs, collected a team-high 27 digs on the night. In fact, five Owls were able to record double-digits in digs, as Shelby Hinshaw (13 digs) and McKenna Hisel (11 digs) were able to join Becker, O'Mara, and Stevenson in the double-digit dig category.
Kristen Bauer and Stephanie Davis were able to join Becker in the double-digit kill category, as Bauer collected 16 kills for the night, while the freshman Davis posted a career-high 12 kills.
William Woods will jump back into American Midwest Conference action on Friday night as they host AMC newcomer Mid-Continent University. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
