WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. -- The no. 23-ranked William Woods University women's basketball team will look for its eighth consecutive win against Williams Baptist College as they wrap-up a two-game game road trip on Tuesday night. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
William Woods (19-4, 10-3 AMC) suffered a 77-70 overtime loss at no.20-ranked Lyon College on Saturday afternoon.
Priscila Santos scored a career-high 26 points, but it wasn't enough as the Owls couldn't hold an eight-point halftime lead and were outscored 13-6 in the extra frame.
Santos leads the Owls in scoring with 14.8 ppg on 47.8 percent shooting. The Brazilian forward has been on a role of late as she has tallied at least 20-points in her last four games. Last week she averaged 25 points in two games by scoring a then career-high 24 points against Hannibal-LaGrange and broke that mark against Lyon on Saturday with 26 points.
WWU averages 68.3 ppg as they shoot 40.3 percent from the floor. Defense has been a trademark for the Owls this season as they give up an American Midwest Conference best 56.9 ppg and allow teams to hit 35.2 percent from the floor.
Williams Baptist (14-11, 7-6 AMC) is riding a modest two-game winning streak after scoring a 61-56 road victory against Park University on Saturday. Cheyenne Childers scored a season-best 25 points in the victory on 8-of-14 shooting.
The 5-11 forward is the only Lady Eagle averaging double-figures with her 12.0 ppg average. Childers has posted double-digits in eight of her last nine games and has four games this year where she has scored 20 or more points.
WBC averages 63.2 ppg on 40.6 percent shooting from the floor. Defensively, the Lady Eagles hold their opposition to 58.7 ppg and allow teams to shoot 34.5 percent, the lowest total in the AMC. Rebounding has been a category that Williams Baptist has excelled at all season as they grab 44.8 caroms per game. Childers is also the team's leading rebounder with 6.5 rpg.
William Woods defeated Williams Baptist 59-48 in Fulton on Jan. 15.
Destani Stensrud scored a career-high 16 points in the victory.
The Owls have won eight straight games in the series, but Williams Baptist holds a 15-13 advantage all-time. The last loss William Woods suffered to the Lady Eagles came exactly four years ago on Feb. 12, 2009. The last WWU loss in Walnut Ridge came on Jan. 26, 2008.
The Owls will be going for their fifth consecutive 20-win season on Tuesday. William Woods has achieved at least 20-wins in each of the five seasons under head coach
