Parra Leads Owls To First Win On Season Over Culver-Stockton

Parra led the Owls with one goal and three assists on the evening.
Box Score FULTON, Mo.- The William Woods men's soccer team earned their first victory on the season in impressive fashion, as Joao Paulo Parra led the Owls to a 4-1 victory over Culver-Stockton.

The Owls, whom have been outscored 5-0 in its first two games on the season, got on the board early as Paulo Conelian scored at the 7:53 mark off a corner kick from Joao Paulo Parra to make it 1-0 WWU. Then, Sebastian Burich scored what turned out to be the game winner at the 19:17 mark on Parra's second assist of the game to make it 2-0 Owls at the end of the first half.

For the third straight game, the team outshot their opponent in the first half, this time the Owls had a 14-5 shot advantage over the Wildcats.

In the second half, the scoring continued as senior Marcelo Carreiro got his first goal on the season and Parra picked up his third straight assist, to make it 3-0 William Woods just 3:00 minutes into the first half.

After contributing with three assists in the game, Parra, a Sao Paulo, Brazil native earned his first goal on the season in the 64th minute, to make the score 4-0 WWU. Jacob Schierding scored in the 80th minute for Culver-Stockton, but the deficit was too great as the Owls went on for the three goal victory.

Evan Melone started his first game on the season in net and picked up the victory making two saves. At the end of 90:00 minutes, the Owls had a shot advantage of 23-8. With his three assists in the game, Parra tied his own school record when the senior had three assists last year against Benedictine-Springfield.

The team will be back in action Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at home, as the Owls will square off against Webster University.
