Owls Go 0-2 In First Day Of The Ashford University Tournament

Stevenson collected a career-high 53 assists.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLINTON, Iowa -- The William Woods University volleyball team went winless in the first two matches of the Ashford University Tournament on Friday afternoon.

William Woods dropped a match to nationally ranked Viterbo University 3-0 (10-25, 22-25, 23-25). The Owls were overwhelmed in the first set against the no. 13-ranked Hawks as they managed just 10 points. WWU fought back and was highly competitive in the match's final two sets, yet it wasn't enough as they fell in straight sets.

Sara Stevenson collected her fifth double-double of the year by handing out 21 assists to go along with 12 digs. Stevenson was one of three Owls to collect double-digit digs, as Abbie O'Mara tallied 17 and McKenna Hisel had 15.

Emily Becker led an evenly balanced offensive attack with seven kills.

The Owls had to overcome a 2-0 deficit in Friday's second match, yet they couldn't get that third decisive set, falling to Graceland University 3-2 (23-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-13).

William Woods had three players hit the double-figure mark in kills, as Becker collected a team-high 18 kills. Kristen Bauer collected 13 kills, while Lauren Rodewald rounded out the trio with 10.

Stevenson had an impressive afternoon, as the freshman setter handed out a career-best 53 assists.

O'Mara led the Owls defense with 27 digs.

WWU will now play a pair of matches in the Bronze Division of the Tournament. The Owls will face-off against the University of Michigan-Dearborn tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. Then they will return to action as they wrap-up this weekend's play with a match against William Penn University.

UM-Dearborn (4-11) went winless on Friday as they fell to Clakre University 3-0 (11-25, 19-25, 19-25) in the day's first match. They were later defeated by host school Ashford University 3-0 (12-25, 14-25, 16-25).

William Penn (7-8) dropped its first match of the tournament to Bellevue University 3-0 (11-25, 16-25, 15-25). The Statesmen dropped its second match of the day to Culver-Stockton 3-0 (23-25, 19-25, 13-25).
