FULTON, Mo.- The William Woods men's soccer team will be on the road tomorrow as they look for its fourth straight victory against a very tough no. 17 Missouri Valley College. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Owls are coming off a 3-0 home stand defeating Culver-Stockton, Webster University and Lindenwood-Belleville by a combined score of 12-2. The team had a shot advantage on the week of 57-31 and were solid in net with
Robertt Butvin and
Evan Melone having a combined save percentage of 0.818.
The offense was led by
Marcelo Carreiro scoring four goals and adding one assists for nine points.
Sebastian Burich had a strong week, totaling three goals and two assists, along with tying Carreiro in shots with 10. Senior
Joao Paulo Parra was another standout player for the Owls in the three games, finishing with two goals and leading the team in assists with three.
The Owls continue to rise in the shots per game standings, as they now stand 18
th in the NAIA with 19.20 per game. Burich is now 14
th in the NAIA in game winning goals, having two on the year. After his offensive week, Carreiro is now ranked sixth in the American Midwest Conference in points (9) and third in goals (4).
This will be the 12
th meeting between the Vikings and the Owls, with MVC winning nine of those games. The two teams' met last year in the Owls season opener, with the Vikings defeating them 4-2. The last time WWU defeated Missouri Valley, was in 2010 when Carreiro scored the lone goal in the game at the 58
th minute, leading the team to a 1-0 victory.
The Vikings (4-1) are off to yet another fast start to the season, as their lone 2-1 loss came at the hands of no. 13 Grand View University. They are led by Tiago Ferreira and Alberto Linan Gomez, as the duo has combined for four goals, four assists, 12 points and 31 shots in five games.
Nicholas Alexander will be another player to look out for, as the forward has one goal and two assists on the season, while leading the team in shots with 21. In net, Josh Wells has a save percentage of 0.789, allowing four goals and making 15 saves in 450:00 minutes played. Â
