BATESVILLE, Ark. -- The William Woods University volleyball team puts its three-game winning streak on the line this weekend, as they make a two-game American Midwest Conference road trip that starts on Friday against Lyon College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
William Woods (6-9, 1-0 AMC) is riding its longest winning streak of the season after defeating Illinois Wesleyan University 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23) on Tuesday night. The streak started last Saturday with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 25-9, 20-25, 15-8) victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
The Owls have received tremendous play from up top during the stretch, as
Emily Becker and
Kristen Bauer have collected over 40 kills apiece. Becker has totaled 45 kills over the last three games, including a 20-kill performance against William Penn University in the last game of the Ashford University Tournament. Bauer has been hot of late, collecting 41 kills in the three-game winning streak. The junior outside hitter has collected double-digit kills in four straight matches.
Abbie O'Mara continues her impressive play this season, as she has collected 102 digs in the three-game winning streak, padding her already huge AMC lead in digs to 377 digs, 211 digs over the second place spot.
Going into Friday's matches O'Mara ranks second in the NAIA is total digs.
Lyon College (7-6, 1-1 AMC) is riding a winning streak of its own, as they have won back-to-back games going into Friday's matchup. The Scots have a pair of AMC games under their belt, as they dropped a match to Missouri Baptist University 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-13) last Friday, but bounced back in their next match to defeat Harris-Stowe 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-16).
The Scots are the top service team in the AMC, as their 2.6 service aces per match average ranks as the fourth-best in the NAIA. Gina Reed's 22 aces ranks as the second-highest total in the AMC.
Katarina Frickleton leads the team in hitting percentage at .286. The freshman also leads the Scots in kills with 88.
Halley Watson's 166 digs is the second-highest total in the AMC, 211 behind the Owl's
Abbie O'Mara.
William Woods is 4-1 lifetime against Lyon College. The Owls won both matches against the Scots last season in Batesville, Ark.
