FULTON, Mo. -- The William Woods University volleyball team drops its second straight home match, as they fall to Culver-Stockton College 3-0 (25-21, 26-16, 25-23) on Thursday night.
Culver-Stockton (16-5) collects the season sweep of William Woods (8-11), as Kamrin Gold's 22-kill performance sparked the Lady Wildcats to victory in straight sets.
Gold, who entered the match with the ninth-most kills in the NAIA, was a force all night for Culver-Stockton, as the sophomore accounted for 42 percent of the Lady Wildcat kills.
William Woods was unable to cash in on a pair of double-digit kill performances from Kristen Bauer and Emily Becker. Becker had a team-high 15 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, while Bauer was extremely efficient, posting 12 kills while committing no attack errors on the night. The St. Charles, Mo., native hit a team-high .343.
The usually reliable defense for the Owls took a hit tonight, as Culver-Stockton posted a .331 attack percentage and had three players hit over .400. Ruthie Wheelock hit a match-high .455 to go along with 11 kills.
Abbie O'Mara, who entered Thursday's match second in the NAIA in digs, was held in check, as the Lady Wildcat offense avoided her for most the night. The libero collected only 15 digs for the match, snapping a seven-match streak where the junior collected at least 26 digs.
McKenna Hisel was the only other Owl to post double-digits in the dig category by totally 11 for the night.
Prior to the match, O'Mara was honored for collecting her 1,000th career dig and being selected the as the Central Dairy William Woods Co-Athlete of the Month for the month of August.
William Woods will wrap-up its four-game home stand next Tuesday, as they host College of the Ozarks and Columbia College in a tri-match. The Owls will take on College of the Ozarks at 4 p.m., and wrap-up the night with a match against American Midwest Conference rival, Columbia College, at 8 p.m. The two traveling schools will play a match in between WWU's matches, as they will square-off at 6 p.m.
