Women's Soccer Sets Program Record With Its Eighth AMC Victory Against Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, TENN.—The William Woods University women's soccer team set a new program record with its eighth American Midwest Conference (AMC) win on the season on Thursday, as the Owls defeated Freed-Hardeman University, 2-0.

The Owls (10-6-2; 8-1-2 AMC), absolutely dominated the Lady Lions (7-8-1; 3-7 AMC), as they outshot FHU 28-5.  With the win, the team has also secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming AMC Tournament and will host an AMC Quarterfinal game on November 7th against a team that is TBA.

WWU got the scoring started at the 9:24 mark of the first half, as senior Rachel Meyer scored her 10th goal on the season, to give the team an early 1-0 lead.

Then the offense took over, as from the 12th minute all the way until the 32:40 mark, the Owls outshot the Lady Lions, 10-0, before Taylor Woods finally recorded a shot for FHU, the first one since the 5:32 mark.

The Owls would go on to tally three more shot attempts before the horn sounded and the team headed into the half up 1-0 and held a shot advantage of 15-2.

The Owls were able to extend its lead rather quickly in the second half, as Jordan McNamara found the back of the net for the 13th time this season, just .47 seconds into the half, off an assist from Ashley Deckard, her eighth on the year, to give WWU a 2-0 advantage.

William Woods went on to total 12 more shots, while FHU was limited to just three and the Owls held on for the two goal victory.

McNamara led the Owls with a game-high eight shots, with six landing on goal, while Sarah Krispin and Meyer each contributed four. In net, Brittany Griffin made two saves on the day, giving her 84 on the season.

The Owls will go into the AMC Tournament as one of the hottest teams', as they closed out the regular season winning seven of its final eight games.
