PARKVILLE, Mo.- The William Woods University volleyball team had its 2014 campaign come to an end in the hands of No. 2 ranked Park University in three sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-17), in the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference Tournament onThursday night.

The Owls (23-16: 8-4 AMC), who were the No. 4 seed in the AMC Tournament put up a tough fight in the first set against the AMC regular season champions but the Pirates were just too strong, as PU closed the match in three straight sets.

William Woods started the night on a promising note, as the Owls put up a hard fight but came up short, dropping the first set 25-22. Â In the first set, WWU collected 13 kills and had an attack percentage of .194, as Park posted 13 kills but had seven errors, giving them an attack percentage of .162.

The Pirates came out in the second set with adjustments and took control, running away with a 25-13 set two win. The Owls only collected six kills and committed five errors, as PU hit a .351 and tallied 17 kills, giving the Pirates a 2-0 advantage in the match.

In the third set, despite the valiant effort from WWU, the Pirates claimed the third 25-17 and the match in three sets. The Owls recorded six kills again in the third, with an attack percentage of .100. Park recorded 17 kills and hit a match-high .361.

On the night, the Owls were led offensively by
Abbi McKnelly, as the freshman recorded seven kills,
Kristen Bauer contributed five kills, while
Emily Becker and
Abby Ferguson both added four kills.

Setter,
Brittney Engelbrecht handed out 11 assists in the match, while on the defensive side, senior libero,
Abbie O'Mara collected 13 digs on the night.

The Pirates will now play Missouri Baptist for the AMC Tournament title on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and following the match, the AMC will name its 2014 All-Conference Team, which will include Coach of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year awards, as well as 20 all-conference honorees on the first and second teams.
