HANNIBAL, Mo.—The William Woods University men's soccer teams' 2014 season came to end on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls fell to Hannibal-LaGrange University 4-1, in the American Midwest Conference Quarterfinals.
Â
The fifth-seeded Owls (11-6-2; 6-3-1 AMC) saw the Trojans (11-7; 7-3 AMC) attack early and often in the first half, with three shot attempts and two made goals by the 18
th minute of play.
Â
The Trojans struck first in the 15
th minute, as a shot by Manuel Saez was saved by

Â
The Owls answered right back, however, as senior

Â
That score did not stay equalized for long, as Garrido once again kicked in a goal for the Trojans just one minute later, off an assist by Manuel Saez and Canamero Carrasco, to put HLG up 2-1 at the break.
Â
The first half saw the Trojans outshoot the Owls 6-3, with Cable totaling three saves in the first 45:00 minutes of play
Â
The second half was much of the same story, as numerous fouls were committed and HLG outshot William Woods 8-4. The scoring opportunities for the Owls came from Hawes,
Harrison Bray, Burich and
Jesse Jordan.
Â
The Owls had a great defensive effort up until the 63
rd minute of play, where Ithamar Junior found the back of the net for the Trojans off a corner kick by Garrido, to put the team up 3-1.
Â
Then, in the 87
th minute, Garrido scored his third goal of the game for Hannibal-LaGrange off a corner kick from Nathan Sapp, to give them a three goal win over WWU.
Â
Hawes led the team with three shots, while Bray added two and Jordan and Burich contributed one.
Â
