Owls Collect First Win On The Season In Dominating Fashion

Hawes led the Owls on Tuesday night recording his first career hat trick while also adding an assist.
Box Score JOPLIN, Mo. - The William Woods University men's soccer team collected its first victory of the season on Tuesday, with a dominating 6-0 shutout performance against Ozark Christian College.

The Owls (1-0-0) offense didn't take long to get the 2014 season started, getting on the board early and often, as Anthony Moscatello found the back of the net in the first minute, assisted by Jacob Hawes.

Only a minute later, WWU found themselves up 2-0 as senior Hawes scored his first goal on the season, off an assist from fellow senior Paulo Conelian.

Senior Luca Stroeter connected with Hawes on a corner kick, giving Hawes his second goal of the night, in the 21st minute of the match, to make the lead 3-0 for the Owls.

With 14 minutes left in the first half, Conelian handed out his second assist of the night, linking with Alex Severino for his first goal of the season. That concluded the strong offense for the Owls in the first half, giving them a 4-0 advantage.

In the second half, the scoring continued, as seniors Stroeter and Hawes, paired up for the second time on the night. Hawes, who recorded a hat-trick in the season opener, headed a shot off the far post from yet another corner kick off the foot of Stroeter to make it 5-0 WWU.

Then in the closing five minutes of the game, senior, Daniel Paez, contributed to the resilient offense, as he recorded the Owls sixth and final goal on the night, which sent WWU home with its first win on the 2014 season. William Woods controlled the pace of the game offensively and defensively, as they held an eye-popping shot advantage of 23-1 over OCC.

Goalkeepers for the night, freshman Conor Cable and sophomore Ivan Monterrubio combined for the first clean sheet on the season for the Owls.

WWU is back in action at home on this Friday night in an exhibition game against Maryville University. Kick-off will start at 7:00 p.m.
