Owls Move Above The .500 Mark On The Season After Going 4-0 At The Avila University Tournament

Rodewald led the Owls against the Bulldogs, totaling a season-high 14 kills.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The William Woods University volleyball team went a perfect 4-0 at the Avila University Tournament this weekend, as the Owls picked up two more wins on Saturday, defeating Bethel College in four sets (19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-15) and Benedictine University at Springfield in three (25-14, 25-10, 25-22).

After dropping the first set against Bethel College (3-5) 25-19, the Owls (6-5), responded by taking the final three sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-15) and picked up its third straight win.

The team totaled 44 kills and an attack percentage of .157 against the Threshers. Leading the way for the offense was senior Kristen Bauer, totaling 12 kills, while freshman Abbi McKnelly continued to add to her team leading kill total, as she added 11 and 15 digs.

Freshman setter Brittney Engelbrecht recorded her eighth double-double on the season, having 39 assists and 14 digs, while senior Abbie O'Mara led the way defensively, having 21 digs.

In the finale of the Avila University Tournament for the Owls, they made quick work of its fellow American Midwest Conference (AMC) foe, as WWU flew past the Bulldogs in straight sets.

After winning the first set 25-14, the Owls made quick work of Benedictine University at Springfield in the second set, taking it 25-10 and despite a valiant effort by the Bulldogs in the third, WWU held on for the 25-22 set and match win.

Junior Lauren Rodewald had a stellar outing against the Bulldogs, totaling a season and team-high 14 kills and earned an attack percentage of .550. Engelbrecht collected her ninth double-double on the season, having 35 assists and a team-high 10 digs, while also recording five kills and an attack percentage of .714.

Now on a season-high four game winning streak and above the .500 mark for the first time this season, the Owls will look for a big win at home against No. 16-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene on Tuesday night. First-serve is set for 7 p.m.
