Owls Look To Bounce Back To Its Winning Ways Against STLCOP

Hinshaw, looks to build off her 338 digs in the back row for the Owls
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After dropping its first American Midwest Conference (AMC) game on the season, the William Woods University volleyball team is set to get back to its winning ways, as the team travels to St. Louis, Missouri with a match-up with St. Louis College of Pharmacy. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
 
The Owls (17-10; 7-1 AMC),  were riding a season-high six game win streak and were perfect a 7-0 in the AMC, before falling to the No. 8th ranked Columbia College last night in three sets (23-25, 18-25, 15-25).  
 
Emily Becker, paced the way for the Owls with 12 kills on the night, as Stephanie Davis and Brittney Engelbrecht each chipped in six kills a piece, while Lauren Rodewald contribute five kills. Engelbrecht also added 23 assists to her stat sheet, while Caitlyn Schmelzer led the team, defensively with seven digs.
 
Despite dropping a tough match against the Cougars, the Owls still sit a top of the conference in the kill category (1253) and dig department (1515), while earning the third place seed in the AMC, still one spot ahead of CC.
 
Becker, continues to lead WWU, as the senior has amassed 312 kills on the year, averaging 3.4 per set, while collecting a team-high 65 blocks. She also has gathered an impressive 278 digs throughout the season, which is third best on the team.
 
Engelbrecht, pushes her season total in assists up to 970, which is the leading number in the AMC, while ranking her seventh in the nation. The setter has also added in 102 kills and 215 digs to her stat sheet on the year.
 
Defensively, Shelby Hinshaw proves to be the Owls leader in the back row, recording a team-high 338 digs, while freshman Melanie Kala continues to have a break out year, posting a team's second best, 283 digs.
 
STLCOP has had a rocky 2015 season, has the Eutectics are currently 1-15 on the season, with a 1-3 AMC record on the year. The team's lone victory came back on September 29th, as Pharmacy swept Harris-Stowe State University in three straight sets. Since then,  the team has not been able to grab a set, entering the match-up with WWU on a seven game skid.
 
On the season, Ashley Walter leads the team offensively, with 85 kills on the year, while Amy Rotella is second on the team with 75 kills.  Maddy Mensing has handed out a team-high 180 assists and Lauren McCulley leads the team in the dig department with 130.
